Helping reduce diet-related disease
Dietary Assessment Ltd
Dietary Assessment Ltd (DAL), founded by Professor Janet Cade, was spun out of the University of Leeds in January 2017, with investment from the University’s Enterprise Fund, to commercialise myfood24 and respond to a growing range of customer requirements.
Originally conceived in the School of Food Science & Nutrition and funded by a research grant (2012-2016) of £1m from the Medical Research Council, myfood24 is an online food diary developed to support research into diet-related disease, such as diabetes and cancer. Over time, we have expanded our horizons and introduced myfood24 for educational purposes, and more recently, we have unveiled a cutting-edge mobile app and web portal, catering to the healthcare sector.

Our Vision
Our vision is to help reduce diet-related disease, globally. We believe that the key to this is enabling researchers, teaching and healthcare professionals to better track, monitor and analyse nutritional intake to improve health.
Technology-based dietary assessment has the potential to provide personalised support and help individuals make sustainable dietary behaviour changes. Organisations and educational facilities have the choice of manual food frequency questionnaires and spreadsheets to calculate nutritional intake – or the use of consumer apps. However, as they are not based on scientific research, they are unsuitable for use in a clinical or research setting.
Our vision is to deliver solutions that provide personalised dietary assessment, support and advice through a single, easy to use platform. For use by healthcare professionals, patients, researchers and consumers, myfood24 will provide evidence-based personalised support according to an individual’s:
Diet
Preferences
Culture
Needs
Lifestyle
Budget
Health
Other characteristics
myfood24 will empower individuals to achieve and sustain healthy diets for improved long-term health and wellbeing.
