We are pleased to announce that our food and drink dataset has reached the half a million milestone! At myfood24, we work to provide accurate, reliable, academically backed datasets across our platforms and language versions, delivering the most nutritionally complete data for all users.

A quick reminder of what makes our dataset so special
• Developed, maintained, and quality checked by accredited nutritionists
Our database team of accredited nutritionists review, update, and improve our extensive food and drink dataset daily.
• Never crowd-sourced:
Our data comes solely from verified sources. These include gold standard international food composition tables, respected supermarket retailers, and hundreds of food chains including restaurants, fast food outlets, and coffee shops.
• Overstamping:
We have overstamped many of our databses, meaning ‘blank values’ found in the original source food composition tables have been rigorously infilled with values from similar products by our team.
• Mapping:
Many of our branded datasets benefit from our novel and unique mapping process. This means branded products within our dataset show many nutrients over and above the standard back-of-pack. Up to 225 nutrients per food!
• Academic rigor:
Our rigorous food and drink dataset is supported by multiple scientific journal articles, regarding the development, validation, and application of a range of our international datasets. See here for more information.
• A variety of variables:
The myfood24 dataset is not just a wide range of nutrients. We also have sustainability metrics, NOVA and HFSS scoring, ingredients, barcodes, % composition of foods (e.g. fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds!), and food group tags.
• And more!:
As well as all the great features above, we have:
- multiple portion image series
- prompts for items commonly consumed together (like milk with cereal)
- a wide range of specialist items, like supplements, enteral feeds, and baby foods.

Since we created myfood24 with a Medical Research Council grant in 2012, our database has grown from 50,000 to over 500,000 foods across 40 databases and 11 languages, and more than 270,000 users now use the platform.
We’d like to thank all the contributors to the myfood24 dataset over the years, including our international collaborators (see here); our research, teaching, healthcare and commercial customers; and, of course, our wonderful team here at myfood24!
Our founder, Professor Janet Cade, said:
“Well done team, this is a fantastic milestone! This data is not AI generated. The care taken to curate these food composition databases provides researchers, clinicians and others with reliable quality-controlled data. Access to brand level data is unique and will allow us to understand more precisely what nutrients people are consuming, for the first time giving this in-depth look at food intake data.”
