myfood24’s New USDA BRanded Datbase!
We are excited to announce that we now offer a new branded database for use in our nutrition analysis software for research and education or via API in the United States of America. This latest addition focuses on branded US items to enhance the USDA Generic database for our US customers!
The USDA branded database covers over 250,000 branded food and drink items found on the US market from supermarkets, retailers and fast food restaurants. The items in the database have been sourced from FoodData Central – https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/. The branded items are mapped to their generic equivalents from the USDA Generic database . The mapping process provides a more complete nutritional profile with up to 225 nutrient variables rather than only back of pack nutrients readily available to consumers.
Like the USDA Generic database, the USDA Branded database has portion images and size options appropriate to the US. These help to support users when adding items, helping to improve the accuracy of reporting. Researchers and education users are able to access the nutritional data of submitted diaries. This nutritional data covers the 225 nutrient variables including macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and phytosterols. As with all of our databases the myfood24 database team, led by nutrition experts, have worked to develop the USDA Branded database using proven methodology and quality checking to ensure accuracy.
